Jodan is a thirteen-year-old boy growing up in a small Ugandan village. Life for him has never been easy—his family struggles with poverty, and many days he goes to school on an empty stomach. Yet, despite the hardships around him, Jodan carries a dream in his heart that shines brighter than his struggles: he wants to become a doctor.
Jodan’s dream was born from the pain he has seen in his community. He has watched neighbors suffer when they fall sick, only to find that the nearest hospital is too far or that medicine is too expensive. He remembers the day his little sister was sick with malaria and how helpless he felt watching her cry. That day, he whispered to himself, “One day, I will be a doctor and help children like her.”
At school, Jodan works harder than anyone else. Science is his favorite subject, and he listens carefully, asking questions whenever he doesn’t understand. Even when he is sent home because he cannot pay school fees, David refuses to give up. He borrows notes from friends, studies under the shade of a tree, and dreams of the day he will wear a white coat.
In the evenings, while helping his mother with chores, David quietly imagines his future: standing in a hospital, treating the sick, and giving hope to those who have none. He does not dream of wealth or fame—he dreams of saving lives and lifting his community out of suffering.
Jodan says, “If I become a doctor, I will not just heal bodies—I will heal hearts, starting with my family and my village.”
Though his path is full of challenges, Jodan’s determination is strong. He knows that with an opportunity, he can achieve his dream and change lives forever. you can be that opportunity had jodan needs.
