Nakyazze Magrete is a 40-year-old single mother living in Kyikusa Town Council, Uganda, raising six children on her own. Every day, she carries the responsibility of providing food, education, shelter, and hope for her family. She currently lives in a rented home, and meeting the monthly rent while paying school fees and putting food on the table is a constant struggle. Her youngest child also depends on her for daily food and care. With no stable income, Nakyazze often has to make painful choices between her family's most basic needs.
Despite these challenges, Nakyazze is determined to change her family's future. She has started keeping broiler chickens on a very small scale, using a simple poultry shelter and whatever resources she can find. She believes poultry farming can become a reliable source of income, but she does not have enough capital to expand it, purchase sufficient feed, provide proper veterinary care, or improve the housing. Her greatest dream is to own a small piece of land where she can build a safe home for her children and establish a poultry farm that can support the family.
Support for Nakyazze would give her more than temporary relief. It would give her an opportunity to move from survival toward independence. With land, a decent family home, and a properly established poultry business, she could gradually generate income to provide school fees, food, healthcare, and other necessities for her children.
