Emergency Support and Livelihood Assistance for Refugee Families in Isingiro District.

1. Background

Isingiro District in Uganda hosts a large number of refugee families who have fled conflict, disasters, and extreme poverty from neighboring countries. Many of these families live in settlements where access to food, clean water, shelter, healthcare, and education is limited. Parents struggle to find stable income, and children are at risk of dropping out of school due to lack of school fees and basic supplies.

This project aims to provide urgent humanitarian support while helping refugee families rebuild their lives through sustainable livelihood opportunities.

2. Problem Statement

Refugee families in Isingiro District face serious challenges, including:

  • Lack of adequate food and nutrition
  • Limited access to clean drinking water
  • Poor housing and temporary shelters
  • Inability to pay school fees for children
  • Unemployment and lack of income-generating skills
  • High levels of poverty and dependency

Without support, these families remain vulnerable to hunger, illness, and long-term poverty.

3. Project Goal

To improve the living conditions and self-reliance of refugee families in Isingiro District through emergency support, education assistance, and livelihood development.

4. Project Objectives


  1. To provide emergency food support to vulnerable refugee families.
  2. To support children with school fees and scholastic materials.
  3. To improve access to safe shelter and basic household needs.
  4. To provide vocational skills training for parents and youth.
  5. To promote sustainable income-generating activities for refugee households.

5. Target Beneficiaries

  • Refugee families living in Isingiro District
  • Vulnerable children and youth
  • Widows and single-parent households
  • Unemployed refugee youth and parents
  • Families living in extreme poverty

Estimated Direct Beneficiaries: 50–100 refugee families (approximately 250–500 individuals)

  • Distribution of food packages to vulnerable families
  • Provision of school fees and scholastic materials
  • Construction or repair of temporary shelters
  • Vocational skills training (e.g., bricklaying, tailoring, carpentry)
  • Support for small income-generating businesses
