Stand With Us: Help Refugee Children from South Sudan and Congo in Uganda

Every day, hundreds of families flee war, violence, and fear in South Sudan and the DRC, crossing into Uganda in search of peace. Many arrive with nothing ,no food, no clothing, no shelter. Among them are thousands of innocent children, traumatized, malnourished, and out of school.

Uganda has opened its arms, but the need is overwhelming.

At Funds Foundation, we work on the frontline in feeding, sheltering, educating, and restoring hope for refugee children and families. We provide food packages, safe spaces, trauma counseling, and access to education so they can start again.

But we cannot do it alone.

Your donation can help a refugee child eat today. Learn tomorrow. Heal forever.
Give them more than survival and give them a future.

Stand with us. Stand with them. Donate today.

The Harsh Reality: What Refugee Families Face When Starting Over

For families fleeing war in South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, arriving in Uganda getting safety and survival is still a daily struggle. These refugees escape bullets and bombs, only to face a different kind of battle: rebuilding life from nothing in a country already burdened by poverty.

Here are the key challenges they face:

1. No Shelter or Basic Housing

Most arrive with nothing but the clothes on their backs. They live in tents or temporary structures that collapse in the rain, offering no protection from cold or disease.

2. Food Insecurity

Refugee camps often lack enough food for everyone. Many families eat once a day or go to bed hungry, especially children who are malnourished and at risk of stunted growth.

3. No Source of Income

Refugees are rarely allowed to work formally. Without jobs or land, they struggle to earn money, feed their families, or afford healthcare and education.

4. Limited Access to Education

Children are eager to learn, but schools are overcrowded, under-resourced, or too far away. Many children especially girls miss years of schooling or drop out entirely.

5. Health Crises

Refugees suffer from trauma, disease, and injuries. Medical centers are underfunded, medications are scarce, and maternal care is almost nonexistent.

6. Psychological Trauma

Families have witnessed horrific violence, lost loved ones, or been separated. Many children suffer from PTSD, anxiety, and emotional isolation without mental health support.

7. Poor Sanitation

Clean water and toilets are scarce. Refugee families often share one latrine among dozens, leading to illness and waterborne diseases like cholera.

8. Legal and Identity Issues

Most arrive without documents. Without legal status or identification, they can access services, own land, or move freely.

9. Social Exclusion

Refugees often face discrimination and are treated as outsiders. They live on the margins, isolated from the local population, and excluded from development programs.

10. No Voice or Representation

Refugees have no say in decisions that affect their lives. Their needs are often ignored, and their rights are not protected

Refugee families from South Sudan and Congo did  not choose to fleethey were forced out by war, violence, and loss. Now in Uganda, they sleep in overcrowded camps, struggle to find food, and watch their children suffer without school, medicine, or hope.
