KIGONGO's Story
Birabwa, a 12-year-old teenager whose dream is to become a social worker and help vulnerable people in her community. Birabwa is bright, compassionate, and determined, but her future is now at great risk due to the difficult circumstances surrounding her life.
Birabwa comes from a very poor family where her parents struggle daily to provide even the most basic necessities such as food, clothing, and medical care. Because of financial hardship, accessing school has become a serious challenge for her. At home, poverty and frequent illnesses have created an environment of constant worry and uncertainty. Sadly, all her siblings have already been forced to drop out of school because the family cannot afford school fees or scholastic materials.
If Birabwa is not helped, she may also be forced to abandon her education just like her siblings. This would not only end her dream of becoming a social worker, but it could also expose her to early child labor, exploitation, or early marriage. Without education, the cycle of poverty in her family is likely to continue for many more years, affecting not only Birabwa but future generations as well. Her potential to grow into a professional who could uplift her community would be lost.
