Ishaka is a fifteen-year-old boy from Uganda whose life was forever changed by a tragedy. One evening, his older brother was shot by a policeman in an unprofessional and careless way. Samuel will never forget the pain of that day—the cries of his family, the silence that followed, and the hole it left in his heart.
But instead of letting anger consume him, Ishaka made a promise to himself: “One day, I will become a policeman—but a different kind of policeman. I will protect lives, not destroy them. I will stand for justice and defend the weak.”
From that moment, his dream was born. He wants to wear the uniform, not for power or fear, but for service. He believes the police should be a symbol of safety and hope, not of fear and pain.
At school, Ishaka always pay attention, especially in subjects like Social Studies and English, because he knows he will need discipline, leadership, and communication skills to achieve his dream. Even though he often struggles—sometimes lacking school fees, books, or even a proper meal—he never loses sight of his goal.
Sometimes he gathers his friends and pretends to lead them like a team of peacekeepers, teaching them about fairness and kindness. When people in his community ask him why he wants to be a policeman after what happened to his brother, Samuel answers with courage: “Because I don’t want another family to suffer the way mine did. I want to be different. I want to be a good policeman.”
Ishakal’s vision is not just about himself. He dreams of serving his country with honesty and compassion, protecting the weak, and ensuring that justice is served fairly. He wants to restore people’s trust in the uniform that once brought pain to his family.
Though he has no one to support him now, Ishaka believes that with help, his dream will come true. His heart carries both the pain of loss and the hope of change—and it is this hope that keeps him moving forward.
