In a small village at the edge of an African country uganda, lives a boy Alfah. He is twelve years of age, yet his eyes carries the weight of a thousand unspoken stories. Both his parents died at a very young age, his father died from natural illness, his mother from childbirth complications. Since then, Alfah lived with his grandmother, who tries her best to care for him, though she has little to give.
Every morning, Alfah wakes up before the sun, to fetch water from the well, and tend to their two goats. But what set`s him apart from many children in his village is his love for books. His school is a simple mud-walled classroom with wooden benches, which has no library. Still, Alfah can read anything he finds, even scraps of old newspapers, eager to learn about the world beyond his village.
One evening, after helping his grandmother prepare their modest dinner, Alfah whispered, “Grandmother, one day I want to be a doctor. I want to help children like me, so they don’t have to lose their parents.” His grandmother’s eyes glistened with tears, for she knew his dream was far greater than their means. You can be that hope that Alfah needs and a helping hand and change a generation.
