Esther is a young girl growing up in a small village in Uganda. Her family has always lived in poverty. Many days, they struggle to find enough food, and sometimes she goes to school with an empty stomach. Her clothes are worn, her shoes are torn, but her spirit is full of hope.
From the time she was little, Esther has carried one dream deep in her heart: she wants to become a doctor. She has watched her family suffer whenever they fall sick because there is no money for treatment. She has seen her younger siblings cry in pain when medicine could not be bought. Each time, Asha tells herself, “One day, I will study hard, I will become a doctor, and I will help my family live a better life.”
At school, Esther works harder than anyone else. She sits at the front of the class, listens carefully, and spends hours reading her borrowed textbooks. Even when she is sent home because her family cannot pay her school fees, she does not give up. She studies under the shade of a tree, practicing her lessons from memory.
At night, when her mother is tired from working in the fields, Asha quietly promises her, “Mama, I will not give up. I will study and become a doctor. I will take care of you one day.”
But Esther’s dream is heavy with challenges. Poverty is like a chain holding her back—no money for school fees, no books, and no proper meals to give her strength to study. She knows that without help, her dream may fade away like so many others in her village.
Still, she refuses to lose hope. Asha believes that with support, she can achieve her dream, lift her family out of poverty, and bring healing to her community. She does not just dream for herself—she dreams for her family, for her siblings, and for every child who has ever gone to bed hungry.
